Letters From Transformers-Jiwa

June 22, 2009 Almost News 1 Comment

bayI’m usually loathe to hype anything TMZ puts out, but this item (a letter of concern from Michael Bay to Paramount Studio heads) was an interesting insight into the film-making process and the egos, concerns and collaboration that go into every production. Films are, after all, viewed by studios and distributors as a product being manufactured with the intent to make a profit, with “art” a secondary concern.

At the beginning of May, the always passionate Michael Bay sent a letter to Paramount suits addressing concerns about the promotion of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The letter is business as usual, but what makes the leak so interesting is the rare insight given into the business aspect of the film-making process and how, despite assurances of a huge box office haul for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Bay wasn’t satisfied with Paramount’s promotion. And that’s not a bad thing at all– especially with years of your life invested in a project. Neither news or groundbreaking scoop, the letter does show that even if your gig is directing movies and living the dream, office politics still rule.

Read the letter here.

I think Bay has a legitimate gripe. This is a huge movie this summer and it does seem to be awful quiet on the marketing front. That begs the question – does the movie suck, or do the marketing folks suck? We know what Bay thinks.

Movie Review: The Other Guys (A-)

From Old School to Elf to Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and even Land of the Lost (I think I might be one of a handful who actually enjoyed this movie), Will Ferrell has proven to be one of the funniest actors of the last decade. Mark Walhberg is in the same boat [...]

Movie Review: The Last Airbender (F)

By ANDY MORGAN There are very few movies I completely and utterly abhor. Generally, I can usually find something positive or likeable in a film, even if said cinema is receiving disgust and scorn en masse from most fall-in-line movie critics. I relish the truth that I don’t always see eye-to-eye with most critics and [...]

Movie Review: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (B)

By ANDY MORGAN Making fun of Twilight fans and bemoaning Stephanie Meyer’s novels and the subsequent movies is almost as easy as drumming up sarcastic jabs about Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or Miley Cyrus. There’s no effort required. It’s easy. And it’s also out of control. It’s almost as popular to dump on the vampire-werewolf [...]
