Obsess much?

halo-3-odstNot a lot of posting this week at AATM.com and for good reason. Well, sorta. You see on Tuesday, Bungie and Microsoft released the fourth game in the Halo franchise, Halo 3: ODST, and, well, I’ve been a little busy killing jackals, brutes, grunts, hunters and traversing the Las Vegas-like streets of New Mombassa. I offer no apologies. I am a Halo nerd.

At any rate, I leave you with a live-action preview for the ODST game below. Oh, yeah, and in case you were wondering, ODST stands for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. Yeah, these guys are the best-of-the-best, that is, next to the Spartans, i.e. Master Chief. They get pooped out of spaceships and rush to planets in tiny little capsules, hence their motto, “feet first into hell.” Pretty sweet, if you ask me. And just another reason a Halo movie should be made by Hollywood pronto.

As a side note, look for Dan’s review of Fame on Friday, as well as our review of the Bruce Willis creepy-toupee-futuristic-thriller, Surrogates. We’ll also have our Fall movie guide up on Friday, as well. Until then, guard your carnal treasure and soak up the last days of September, the long and steady drop toward winter starts soon.

    So how is it?
I saw a review up on xplay and they gave it 5 out of 5 all the while complaining that it was too short, wasnt as good as Halo 3 and throwing out disclaimers like “if your not a halo fan you may want to pass on this one” due to it being full price.

A 5/5 doesnt make one damn bit of sense to me but hey when you have your face up Microshafts ass i guess your a bit bias.

Oh well id like to pick it up nonetheless. Grats on the new Halo.

    Oh..
Andy or Dan have you guys had a chance to see Pandorum?
It looks like it could be really good, or really bad.
I like me the Dennis quaid and the kid who was in 3:10 to Yuma.

Im crossin my fingers that this movie is intense.

  2. Andy says:

It’s tough, Danny. As someone who loves the Haloverse, I think the game is great. I’m playing on Legendary, so it doesn’t feel short for me. It is a lot like Halo 3, but then again, also fudamentlally different. I’d probably give it an 8 out of 10. And just so you know, there are very few games I think are actually worth $60. When I finish the game, I’ll give you the final verdict.

    • Andy says:

Oh, and no screening of Pandorum, which makes me think the studio doesn’t have a lot of confidence in high praise from critics. But I’m with you, it looks pretty sweet, and that’s coming from a guy who thinks Dennis Quaid is crap.

      • Nick says:

I finished the campaign today and am very happy I have Gamefly. Nothing like paying $60 for a few hour game. Not worth it, it should have been a $30 expansion game. I’ll be returning it pronto, as the Horde rehash isn’t worth more than a few minutes of my time.

        • Andy says:

See, that’s what you get when you play on easy. Jeesh.

In all seriousness, it’s a cool game, but nothing to knock your socks off. It definitely does not have enough shelf-life to warranty $60, I agree with that. And the wandering of the streets of New Mombassa as The Rookie got a little tiresome after the first two missions.

It makes sense, when giving the game praise, why most reviews say, “If you’re a fan of Halo…” But yeah, I’d probably give it a solid 7 out of 10.

  3. Dan says:

So yeah- no screenings, but hey– there’s a few out there who have seen it and can give a little more insight:

I’m not big into gory horror (and with a poster of a dude tearing his skin off, I dunno that I’ll escape that here), but I can’t help but be intrigued by this one.

  4. Danny says:

    Thx for the link Dan.

Cmon Andy..Quaid may not be brilliant but the guy has done some good flicks over the years, Frequency being one of my favorite films with him and Jim Caviezel.

I cant think of a bad movie he’s been in..wait,ok i heard Vantage Point was a turd, but besides that..oh f**k it, alright hes done some shitters but i still likes me the Quaid!

Dan i refuse to read your review until i see Pandorum tomorrow.)

  5. Dan says:

    It’s spoiler free!

Movie Review: The Last Airbender (F)

By ANDY MORGAN There are very few movies I completely and utterly abhor. Generally, I can usually find something positive or likeable in a film, even if said cinema is receiving disgust and scorn en masse from most fall-in-line movie critics. I relish the truth that I don’t always see eye-to-eye with most critics and [...]

Movie Review: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (B)

By ANDY MORGAN Making fun of Twilight fans and bemoaning Stephanie Meyer’s novels and the subsequent movies is almost as easy as drumming up sarcastic jabs about Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or Miley Cyrus. There’s no effort required. It’s easy. And it’s also out of control. It’s almost as popular to dump on the vampire-werewolf [...]

Movie Review: The Last Airbender (C-)

By DAN VINTON If there’s one thing The Last Airbender does well, it proves any mystique surrounding M. Night Shaymalan is gone. With this coffin-bound nail, all residual goodwill The Sixth Sense director retained from followup successes like Unbreakable, Signs and even the creepy but fatally flawed The Village has been throttled by his is [...]
