Two Wolfman Posters Online – One Hairy, One Dumb

November 9, 2009 Almost News, Posters 7 Comments

Saw these new posters for February 2010′s The Wolfman today and I thought I’d share the goodness with AATM readers. As we’ve chronicled in previous posts, The Wolfman is a remake of the 1941 classic and stars Benicio “My Wolf Hair is not Make-Up” Del Toro (Things We Lost in the Fire), Anthony Hopkins (Beowulf), Emily Blunt (Sunshine Cleaning) and Hugo Weaving (V for Vendetta). And while the most recent trailer is pretty sweet, I’d say I’m 50/50 on these posters. The hairy face one with Del Toro as the title character isn’t too bad, but the second is pretty lame. Sure the title gives it away, but if I didn’t know better, I’d assume Emily Blunt was hiding in the woods fearing a fierce anal probing from The Fourth Kind aliens.

Taken seperately, they’re pretty standard, but side by side they work together as a whole picture. Kind of a cool, surrealistic arty thing Universal did with them.

    • Andy says:

I disagree on the whole picture aspect. If they had taken the poster of the Wolfman and put him in the trees or – like the two posters could fit together, then yes. But that’s not what I see and I suspect most theatergoers won’t see them side-by-side, as I don’t think they were meant that way.

  2. dan says:

No, they really were designed as a whole picture. They fit together side by side. Check it out here: http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2009/11/imagine_that.php. It’s more surreal, but it plays up the connection between the characters. It’s similar to the Kick-Ass posters that went out to IGN- they’re separate, but part of a whole.

  3. Andy says:

Ehhhh, I guess. I see the “surreal” aspect, but I don’t see the “whole picture,” i.e. they are supposed to be connected beyond being from the same movie. Again, love the Wolfman face poster, not a fan of the lone Emily Blunt poster.

  4. Susan Chafer says:

Well…leaving aside all the artsy rubbish, surreal or otherwise, couldn’t they have done better?

  5. Andy says:

Man with all the marketing material these studios spew out, it’s no wonder films cost hundreds of millions or more to make and market.

  6. [...] few weeks back, AATM was host to a minor row over Universal’s debut of some “artsy” The Wolfman posters. I liked the overall concept, but my esteemed colleague and others didn’t [...]

Movie Review: The Other Guys (A-)

From Old School to Elf to Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and even Land of the Lost (I think I might be one of a handful who actually enjoyed this movie), Will Ferrell has proven to be one of the funniest actors of the last decade. Mark Walhberg is in the same boat [...]

Movie Review: The Last Airbender (F)

By ANDY MORGAN There are very few movies I completely and utterly abhor. Generally, I can usually find something positive or likeable in a film, even if said cinema is receiving disgust and scorn en masse from most fall-in-line movie critics. I relish the truth that I don’t always see eye-to-eye with most critics and [...]

Movie Review: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (B)

By ANDY MORGAN Making fun of Twilight fans and bemoaning Stephanie Meyer’s novels and the subsequent movies is almost as easy as drumming up sarcastic jabs about Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or Miley Cyrus. There’s no effort required. It’s easy. And it’s also out of control. It’s almost as popular to dump on the vampire-werewolf [...]
