Movie Review: Pitch Perfect Another Comedy with Strong, Funny and Unapologetic Women

GRADE: B On the surface, Pitch Perfect looks like Glee: The Movie, or, more generically, another low-budget, low-IQ teenage-driven comedy most assuredly packed with booze, sex and enough innuendo and euphemisms its bloated PG-13 rating can hold. At least that’s what my mind first thought when I saw the synopsis and the poster (which, ironically, tends to look like the poster for 2011’s Bridesmaids). However, after watching the trailer, while still skeptical, I had high hopes. Maybe, just maybe, Pitch

Potter, Incredibles and Country Strong Headline Tuesday’s DVD & Blu-ray Releases

There are quite a few worthy films playing in the local theaters right now (Hanna, The King’s Speech, Source Code, The Lincoln Lawyer, Rango, Insidious and Limitless), but it you’re not into paying eight bucks for a half-assed Westates’ screening, then the DVD/Blu-ray pickings this week (and recently) will give you enough entertainment. As always, most of these can be found at a Redbox, on Netflix or your local video rental store (in Cache Valley that amounts to Hastings or The Book Table). If you want

Trailer Tuesday: New Tron: Legacy Trailer!

I fell asleep about 15 minutes into Tron, the 1982 DayGlo sci-fi adventure starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, so about the only handshake I have with the movie is countless quarters wasted on the arcade game of the same name. When a sequel was announced – this December’s Tron: Legacy – I yawned and gave 3D another fierce shake of the fist. To this date I have seen nothing, story-wise or visual elements, that has pulled me from the

Sexy Tron Poster Makes Me Want to Actually See Tron

Tron: Legacy is a movie I have zero interest in seeing this holiday season. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jeff Bridges and I enjoy a fanciful romp through video game land as much as the next guy, but I fell asleep during the 1982 version and I’m anticipating I’ll do the same in 2010, especially with the craptastic 3D shoveled down my throat like some rancid cherry-on-top surprise. However, with that said, this poster, released to the people of

Trailer Tuesday: Tron Legacy

At this point, nine months out, I’m not sure there’s anything we can say here about Tron Legacy that hasn’t already been said from what little we’ve seen. Andy’s not so hot on Tron Legacy. I think it looks exciting, slick and am chomping at the bit. Tron‘s first theatrical trailer– the one debuted before Alice in Wonderland— has been released to the internet. Judging by the $114 million haul Alice made over the weekend, most of you have probably

Tron Time is Sexy Time

I’m a sucker for visual/art/production design. Which explains why Andy’s correctly dubbed me a Bluray whore and why on Tuesday Pandorum (review here) made off with $20 of my hard-earned stripping dollars, why I periodically revisit the vile Alien: Resurrection and why The Spirit is shaming Spider-Man 3 and Starship Troopers on my Bluray shelf. It’s also why, whether Tron Legacy will be good or bad, I get all slobbery when I think forward (way, way off in the distance

Tron Legacy Poster is Actually Not Lame

You know, for a movie I still think is going to suck the sweat off a dead man’s gut sack, this Tron Legacy poster is pretty sweet. The movie opens on December 10, 2010 and is directed by Joseph Kosinski. That’s not a household name to anyone but Joseph’s mother, but Halo fans might get a nerdgasm to learn he was the director of the “Starry Night” commercial that aired back in December 2006. This is Kosinski’s first feature film.

Cranky Monday: Bad Mannered Movie Patrons = A-Holes

If you get out your cell phone after the lights have dimmed in a movie theater and text or talk, you are a bad mannered jackass. If you think the movie is your own personal Mystery Science Theater 3000 and you chit chat through the previews and throughout the movie, you should have the letter D branded in your forehead, because you are a douche. I know, I know. Call me an old-fashioned curmudgeon, but I believe in a code

Tron: Legacy Gets Release Date, Internet Collectively Yawns

Wow, December of 2010 is shaping up, at least to this film fan, to be a real slice of stink. So far the lineup for 12/10 includes The Smurfs, Yogi Bear and The Green Hornet. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like two potential rivals to the suck created by Alvin and The Chipmunks, and a Seth Rogan movie that willl most likely go down in flames. Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but I get no sense of

“Tron: Legacy” Adds Michael Sheen to Cast

Michael Sheen has a face that everyone knows, but a name that most don’t. In fact, in a recent AATM.com poll, readers picked “Michael Sheen is the younger brother of Charlie Sheen and has been in prision since he was 17” over “Michael Sheen is the talented actor seen in such films as ‘The Queen’ and ‘Frost/Nixon’.” However, if you wanted to really get crazy, Michael Sheen was in “Timeline” with Gerard Butler, who was in “Reign of Fire” with
