Predators Sneak Peak = Cinematic Viagra

Oh man oh man oh man. How cool is this sneak peak clip from the upcoming summer release, Predators, directed by Nimród Antal (Vacancy, Armored) and produced by Robert Rodriguez (Shorts)? Ooooh, let me answer – pretty friggin’ cool. Opening on July 9, I just can’t imagine any way this movie won’t be pure awesome, and based off what I see of Adrian Brody (The Brothers Bloom), I think my assertion his casting was a great choice is more than evident.

Predators also stars Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3), Alice Braga (Blindness), Laurence Fishburne (Armored) and Danny Trejo (Grindhouse). If you feel a slight rise in your shorts when you hear Arnold say “get to the chopppah!” in Predator, than chances are you won’t need your daily dose of ExtenZe this evening. Enjoy!

Crazy Heart Behind the Scenes Featurette

We sung the praises of Crazy Heart on tonight’s KVNU Movie Show, but if you’re still unsure on whether or not to give the film a shot, check out this behind-the-scenes featurette from Fox Searchlight. Happy Friday!

Legion Clip Contains Gun, Mace and Wing Violence

The upcoming angels and automatic weapon orgy Legion looks like an attempt at coronation as this decade’s Underworld– a geeky/goofy genre premise that takes itself deadly serious and while a little flat and overly straight-faced, has the sweet potential for guilty pleasure. Legion arrives January 22, which means all kinds of clips are coming available.

Clips like this one, where Paul Bettany’s Michael goes angel-a-angel with a wing-swinging Gabriel. Like I said, goofy… but kinda cool. Geek out or roll your eyes below.

Kick-Ass Clip Brings Heartwarming Joy

Coming off the annual AICN BNAT (Butt-Numb-A-Thon) film-fest this last week, Kick-Ass has officially received the geek cred seal of approval. Admittedly, that’s not too hard, but face it. The Kick-Ass trailer is pretty fantastic and this new clip as debuted on UGO warmed my heart and brought a smile to my face. There’s nothing like the special relationship between Daddy and daughter.

And a crazy Nicholas Cage and a 12-year-old-assassin in training.

Up Ties Some Loose Ends

Up is one of the year’s best. The movie runs the smorgasbord of emotions and themes– and while I’ve heard that criticized as a soft attempt to break through the live-action Best Picture barrier while pacifying the masses with fun (IE- a movie that’s not too thought-provoking), I say stop being so cynical. Not everything has to be an exercise in existential misery wallowing.

In the mean time, Pixar’s released an animated short from the world of Up.  The short chronicles George and A.J., the two orderlies sent to grab Carl Fredrickson for a trip to Shady Oaks retirement home before he gives them the raspberry and floats away. The short is animated in Pixar’s go-to 2D– a blocky, 60’s-esque illustration style, but still retains the fun and heart embodied in the feature film.

So what did Carl inspire? Check it out below.

Vampax: Twilight Tampons Give Me the Chuckles!

Leave it to the folks at FunnyorDie.com to make the funniest Twilight spoof on the web. I shot Mountain Dew Code Red out my nose while watching this clip starring Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Martha Macisaac (Superbad).

Cranky Monday: What the Hell’s so Special About Taiwan Anyway, Avatar?

Don’t get me wrong. Taiwan is rad. SO rad. Not only rad enough that the U.S. would go to fisticuffs with China over it, but rad enough the Avatar campaign bus has just dropped off a load of new footage at their Yahoo! site.

The appetite-whetting footage is found in yet another featurette that, if you’re not already aware, pretty much lays out the whole story. The best part? You can understand the whole thing because it’s all in English. And while we can all look forward to Avatar “revolutionizing” the world of cinema forever when it comes out December 18, apparently it was unable to teach its cast to speak Chinese. Revolutionary my ass.

Check it out here.

[Edit: Or here, for you xenophobic types]

THEN, (you know, if you want to) check out the loooong, plot-detailed trailer below that aired for American audiences on TV a few days back.

Paranormal Activity Original Ending, Part Deux

A few weeks ago I posted the original ending/alternate ending video for Paranormal Activity, but soon thereafter the video was removed from YouTube. Here it is again, this time from www.worstpreviews.com. As I stated before, the new ending, supposedly the one suggested by Steven Spielberg, where (SPOILER HIGHLIGHT TO READ) Micah is thrown into the camera, presumably already dead, by Katie, is by far the best ending. I appreciate what Peli was doing below, but it’s just not got the punch as the one attached to prints in theaters. See for yourself and let us know what you think.

See More Avatar Through the Miracle of Advertising

Avatar, the massive James Cameron project too recently unknown to the general public, is beginning to find its legs thanks to a new, story-based trailer attached to the uber-trending Paranormal Activity. The better trailer still feels super late, but at least people know it’s coming in less than two months. Studio reassurances of massive marketing are abounding and apparently, now is the time to expect the Avatar marketing flood (that flood promised way back at Comic Con?)– there’s a lot riding on it, so it’s about time.

As part of this coming deluge, 20th Century Fox has released a featurette that not only gives more story detail, but also introduces a load of footage not seen in previous trailers. The featurette is typically fluffy and a bit overstated, but it’s still full of fantastical cool looking stuff.

Star Trek Gets a Plot Hole Filled

It was decades ago– in Hollywood release schedule years– when Star Trek lens flared its way to theaters back in May. There’s no question the resuscitation attempt worked– the movie delivered fun to audiences and a whole lot of loot for Paramount. But despite the good times had with a bombastic score and the return of busty green alien chicks that would later shoot exploding arrows, one question remained: what the hell was the villain Nero doing for the 20 years between meeting the exploding Kirk Sr. and the fat-handed Kirk Jr.?

Word on the street suggested a whole scene had been cut which explained the gap and also introduced Star Trek’s cranial villains, the Klingons. Well, word on the street was right and the scene will appear on the upcoming DVD/Blu Ray release. Spike TV, home to the we want to be all things to dudes that wash their drawers in Axe and subscribe to Maxim/FHM for the articles, has scored an embeddable clip of the scene. An embeddable clip you can both view and enjoy below.

Star Trek hits shelves November 17.
