Lets get this out of the way. I hate 3D movies. I saw Chicken Little in 3D years ago and am still trying to recover from the experience. When it comes to 3D movies, I ask myself… Does a movie in 3D add anything to the story that wouldn’t be there in 2D? Most of the time, I think that answer is no. After watching Transformers 3 in 3D earlier this year I promised myself that I would never again watch a 3D movie. Peter Jackson, however, seems intent on making me break that promise. The Hobbit currently filming in New Zealand is being filmed entirely in 3D. Jackson has been documenting the process with short video diaries directly from the set. The fourth video which was released earlier this month describes the process Jackson is using to film in 3D, as well as the reasons why he believes 3D can be a benefit to the story. In the films that I have seen, 3D is used as little more than a gimic. Most films are converted to 3D in post-production with the sole purpose of squeezing more money from increased ticket prices. After watching Jackson’s latest video, I hold out hope that The Hobbit 3D might have what it takes to change my perception of 3D filmmaking. For now, I remain a skeptic. Check out the video and see for yourself. What are your thoughts about 3D? Do you think The Hobbit will be better or worse because of 3D?

We all know that today is the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks. When I was little I remember watching Home Alone and thinking, “Where is the security? Why are they running through and airport? Why won’t my brother stop poking me? Why haven’t they checked their bags?” Well guess what little children? They didn’t have that back in the olden days otherwise known as the 90′s. You didn’t have to do all that crap that most of the time makes you late, and this is all thanks to Osama Bin Laden, probably the most hated guy in history besides Justin Bieber. Poor Justin, what did he do wrong? He just needs somebody to love and to be his baby. Anyhew, so continuing on Home Alone, I watch that now and it totally makes me think about how stupid we were in the 90′s. Sorry but everything was horrible – the music, the clothes, the hair, that attitude and oh good grief we had the happiest and snootiest attitudes ever until finally we woke up, when those planes hit the north, and then the south towers in the World Trade Center. We weren’t pooping ourselves thinking it was a terrorist attack, but if that happened now, we would. Because we used to see the good in everything and now we’ve lost trust in other people that we can’t look at a bad thing happening and not think we are all going to die. Lots of people think of how this was the day we went to war and how this is the day when we knew about how bad the world is and blah blah blah blah blah. Well I don’t think of it like that at all. I think of it as the day America came together. The day that people you didn’t even know were trying to save your life so that you could go home to your family. The day that a stranger on the street gave you a tissue and cried with you when you saw that second plane hit the South Tower. I think of it as the day America let go of the name America and was able to find again the name The United States of America. United which mean together as one. Not crying because your nail broke but crying because your neighbor died and because you love this country and somebody was pushing your buttons a little too far and flying airplanes in your buildings. You have to realize that life is going to throw bricks at you and this was one giant brick. Well, when life does that get your butt up and throw the dang bricks back! And that’s what we did and that Freedom Tower we are building is basically flipping the bird to terrorists everywhere or saying “In your face Bin Laden. Whose laughing now?” or mooning all those people who burned that flag at the memorial today. All of those things would be very funny. So you can look at it as the day...

First of all, I don’t get why they are called the Video Music Awards. Did somebody working for MTV type it backwards and had a rough day and the last thing they wanted to do was change it? That would make sense because when I’m at school and I’m way more tired then usual (I wake up at six in the morning people) and then I misspell something I am too lazy to change it. Anyway, some time during the Music Video, sorry I meant Video Music Awards Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss, will come out onto the stage and she will present the first ever sneak peak of The Hunger Games. Feel free to applaud. The only issue I have with this is I really wish Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta, would come out also because I’m Team Peeta . Yeah, we all know that’s not the reason why. The Hunger Games comes out on March 21, 2012. It stars Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right), Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), Woodey Harrelson (Zombieland), Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones), and Elizabeth Banks (Our Idiot Brother). This by far is one of the best casts of people I have seen in a long time. I love everyone of these actors. So get on your DVR and record the Music Video, sorry I did it again. Okay not really I just think it’s funny. So like I was saying record the Video Music Awards. Oh man, that get’s me every time.

So you know how everybody was pooping there pants over how the new Superman movie Man of Steel was going to come out next year in December? Well bring out the tissues because they decided to postpone it for six months. I know it’s pathetic and I’m pretty sure they will come out with some explanation why, but I already put it on my calendar in pen. How am I supposed to get that out? Huh Hollywood? Even if I scratch it out there will still be that reminder of what could have been. Now look at the gray background of that Superman picture. Does it look like there’s anything happy about it? No. Another reason people are sad about this is because we will never get to see it according to some ancient wack jobs the world is going to end in December 2012. And it’s around Christmas time. So not only are the children not going to get presents, we aren’t going to be able to see Man of Steel. That’s just great. Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Immortals) as Superman, Amy Adams (The Fighter) as Lois Lane, Dianne Lane (Secretariat) as Martha Kent, and Russel Crowe (Robin Hood) as Jor-El with director Zack Snyder who also directed Sucker Punch and 300. So let’s all pray the world will not end in 2012 which thanks to the movie 2012 we all hope will not be as boring and two hours of wasted time. You have no idea how long I’ve waited to say that on a post where millions of people can see it. As always please comment. Just no potty words (cough cough Andrew).

I can’t recall how many times over the last two years I’ve written about possible rumblings and rumors regarding the locked-in-development-hell Halo movie. You remember the Halo movie, right? Yeah, remember when Halo was a big deal, when it actually had some momentum? It was in 2005-2006, at the peak of Halo 2 and its eye-popping popularity on XBOX Live, and right before the release of Halo 3 in 2007. The buzz was high and Peter Jackson – yes, the Peter Jackson – was going to executive produce a movie version of the game and hired first-time director Neill Blomkamp to helm the flick. To make a long story short, Universal Studios and 20th Century Fox backed out of their deal with the heavy-handed Microsoft and the Halo movie was no more. Dead. Gone. Jackson went on to The Lovely Bones and Blomkamp went on to direct the Oscar-nomiated District 9, effectively giving the bird to all the doubters who said he was the wrong pick for Halo. As for Master Chief, he floated off into space via cryo-sleep in Halo 3, and Bungie and Microsoft’s attempts, while successful financially, to keep the Spartan fire lit, ultimately fizzled with Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach. It seemed to me, the magic was gone. The window on Halo’s cinema potential was closed. And then I saw the trailer for the forthcoming (2012) Halo 4 below a few days ago and had a Viagra moment. Maybe it’s the initial giddiness of seeing Master Chief zipping through space with his half-naked A.I., Cortana, but something stirred inside me and I’m crossing my fingers a new story – a new Halo trilogy – will rouse the movie from its long-cemented purgatory and Microsoft will capitalize and strike while the fire, hopefully, is hot. I have to think with the November 2011 re-release of Halo: Combat Evolved (now with updated and HD graphics and XBOX Live play) that a bigger plan is in effect and that it’s not just about selling video games, but about re-energizing a franchise that once had the potential to be something special at the cinema. Time will tell and I’m keeping my fingers crossed. What about you? Excited for Halo 4? Or is the franchise too late to the table now?

No, this isn’t an April Fools’ Day prank. It was announced last week by The Weinstein Company that a “family-friendly” version of The King’s Speech would be released into theaters today, April 1, 2011. Nobody is crying censorship, obviously, but many, including me are wondering why. Let’s be perfectly clear: The King’s Speech is an R rated movie because it uses the f-word 12 times. The rule is no more than two f-words in a PG-13 movie and not one instance of the f-word used sexually. By those standards, The King’s Speech has earned it’s R rating. But, let me be clear, in all my years of living and seeing movies, I have never seen a more “light” R rated movie than The King’s Speech. In fact, I would have zero hesitation in taking my 12 year-old daughter to this remarkable film. I don’t think her viewing it will cause her to start dropping the f-bomb on a regular basis, nor do I think the hearing of said word gives her silent permission to do so. This is why we are parents – to teach, instruct and guide – and why we have frank discussions. No matter how hard we might want to hide our children from the world, they will be exposed one way or another. Open, frank communication beats the hell out of a security blanket any day. I wondered how our pals at Kids-in-Mind ranked The King’s Speech (they rank movies on a scale from one to 10 on sex and nudity, violence and gore, and profanity). Here’s what I found, along with some recent releases by comparisson: The King’s Speech (R): 1.1.6 Sucker Punch (PG-13): 5.7.4 Diary of a Wimpy Kid- Rodrick Rules (PG): 1.3.2 Limitless (PG-13): 6.7.5 So, regardless of it’s dozen fudge words, The King’s Speech is more on par with the PG Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie than it is with recent PG-13 movies chock full of violence, sexuality and other, apparently more harmless, uses of profanity. I’m amazed that one word can carry such stigma and I’m equally amazed that The Weinstein Company went forward with this re-release, especially since the same folks refused to re-cut the NC-17 Blue Valentine to an R rating because of artistic integrity. For shame, Harvey. For shame. In the end, I think The King’s Speech star, Colin Firth, said it best: It serves a purpose. I’m not someone who’s casual about that kind of language. I take my children to football [soccer] games. I hate hearing that kind of language in their ears, but I won’t deny them the experience of a live game. But in the context of the film, it couldn’t be more edifying, more appropriate. It’s not vicious or insulting. It’s not in the context that might offend. Hopefully, Utahans, smack dab in the land of Just Say No to the R, will give the movie a chance in its original presentation and come to understand that many times ratings are just letters, not set-in-stone,...

According to Dead Space 2′s in-game calculator, I’ve wasted spent 30 hours of my life, since late January, dismembering necromorphs (see: wetting myself out of fear) and galavanting across The Sprawl, looking like a bad ass space cowboy with my arsenal of limb-slicing weapons. I simply cannot get enough Dead Space. I loved the first game and I’m humping the leg of the second installment (on my fourth play-through). It’s a shooter, it’s a haunted house, it’s a space adventure and is chock full of interstellar zombies and, in this writer’s opinion, a compelling storyline. Add to that an eerie, cinematic score, eye-popping visuals and jaw-dropping attention to detail and it’s safe to say, for me, Dead Space is the new Halo. Still, what does this all mean to a non-gamer? Well, aside from the fact that I want a Dead Space 3 in the worst way, I want a Dead Space movie STAT. And trust me, if you like sci-fi and also like wearing Depends adult diapers to the cineplex, you want this movie, too. But guess what? It’s not going to happen. Really, it’s not. Just ask Halo, Bioshock and Gears of War fans. They’ve been waiting, in the case of Halo, since 2006 for a big screen orgy of grunts, elites, brutes and ol’ Master Chief, and even though it came close to fruition with Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp, who went on to kick serious box-office booty with District 9 – best picture booty, in fact, fans were left with blue balls when 20th Century Fox and Universal balked at the massive pricetag and earnings demands Microsoft was championing. Despite its existence in Development Hell, Halo overseer Frank O’ Connor has said the movie still will be made. Rumors of Steven Spielberg’s interest in the franchise have soothed wounded souls from time-to-time, but as of today Halo is dead. And it should be. The Halo flame has been extinguised by the Call of Duty franchise. Microsoft would have to really stir some sustained interest for the movie ever to garner the success it could have obtained in 2007-2008, at the height of Halo 3′s popularity. The same can be said for Bioshock and Gears of War. Both directors originally attached have jettisoned from each project and both movies are stalled and most likely will never be made. While both games have sequels (Bioshock Infinite and Gears of War 3) coming in 2011, it’s hard to imagine the “wow” factor ever being the same as it was in 2007-2008. There is something to be said about timeliness. Studios must strike when the iron is hot, because with the passage of too much time the property wilts from compelling and engaging to just another video game movie waiting to entertain a small horde of fanboys, but destined to fizzle into financial and critical obscurity. So, to the head honchos of Dead Space, learn from the past. Be cautious, sure. But also, be bold. This has the chance to be something...

If you live in Utah, you know the way rumors spread through Mormondom like napalm, and you’ve also probably heard people grumbling and asking questions about whether or not Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I has nudity or not. I’m not sure who ignited this particular brouhaha, but it seems KSL.com picked the story up from who knows where and then it spread through Facebook and Twitter quicker than you can say Mahonri Moriacumer. Here’s my best guess: The article’s author, Cleon Wall, doing his best LDS impersonation of TMZ.com, stumbled upon or was led to an article (there are many out there) where Potter director, David Yates gives a description of the supposed “nude” scene, saying (and be cautioned, this could be a SPOILER): “…a horcrux [carrying a piece of Voldemort’s soul] defends itself by producing nightmarish visions, and one shows Hermione and Harry embracing and kissing. It’s something intriguing and sensual for Rupert to react to, and Dan will be bare for that.” Let me tell you right here and now there is no nudity in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I. The scene in question, involving silver, swirling mist and an airbrushed Harry and Hermoine is as exactly as the Classification and Ratings Administration has described it – brief sensuality. Frankly, we see more skin on Dobby and Creature, the two house-elves, or when Harry strips to his boxer briefs to jump in an icy lake, than we do in the rumored nude scene. Now, with that out of the way, let me be the cautionary parent. The Deathly Hallows: Part I is rated PG-13 and is rated appropriately. The scene in question is sensual, there are plenty of terrifying moments, violence and gore, so, once again, CARA got it right. PG-13 is the appropriate rating. Parents should be strongly cautioned when taking there children who are younger than 13. For more reading on the PG-13 rating, visit Reasons for Movie Ratings via CARA.org. You may be surprised to learn that you can have nudity in a PG-13 movie, as long as it isn’t sexual in nature. Also, please check back on Thursday for my full review of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I.

In case you haven’t heard, Christopher “King Midas” Nolan, the God behind Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception (not to mention Memento, Insomnia and The Prestige) has handpicked Zack Snyder, the wunderkind behind 2007′s awesome, 300, 2009′s not-so-awesome-but-worthy-effort, Watchmen, and the recently released Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, to direct the forthcoming reboot of the Superman franchise. Despite all the rumormongering now taking place, this makes me extremely pleased. One of my earliest memories of cinema-going as a kid was seeing Christopher Reeve save Margot Kidder from the crashed helicopter dangling from the edge of The Daily Planet’s roof (“You’ve got me!? Whose got you?!) in 1978′s Superman: The Movie. I remember coming home after the show and hopping into a homemade Superman outfit that consisted of pajamas, cowboy boots, a burgundy towel (or maybe it was an afghan) tied around my neck and underpants pulled over my PJ bottoms for good measure and added authenticity. Needless to say, Superman has a special place in my heart and is probably, alongside Batman, my favorite superhero. Nevertheless, I see the challenges of making a modern-day Superman movie, as did poor Bryan Singer, whose 2006 reboot bombastically stormed the box office and whimpered out to middling reviews and box office performance. That’s where Christopher Nolan, his brother Jonathan and their Batman Begins/The Dark Knight collaborator, David S. Goyer come into relevance. These guys have shown they can take a classic, iconic superhero and remold him to fit the nuances of life in the 21st Century. Superman, above all other superheros, needs this makeover in a bad way. Reaction to Snyder’s hiring has been mixed, but I’m optimistic he’ll pull this off with flying colors. Why? Because I have a hard time thinking Christopher Nolan would put his name next to anything or invest his time and energy in a project or director that he didn’t feel was capable of blowing audiences out of their seats. Even if you don’t like Snyder’s movies, you can’t argue for a minute that his creations are stylistic and iconic. The guy has confidence and probably just the right sized set of balls to pull off a fantastic Man of Steel reboot. One thing is clear – Snyder’s hiring has set off a firestorm of casting and story rumors. I’ve heard everything from Jon Hamm (TV’s Mad Men) to Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) to even the balding, aging Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes). Storylines are even as varied, with some reports having Clark Kent traveling the globe, pondering whether or not he should become Superman, to a return of the beloved General Zod (played previously by Terrance Stamp in Superman II). Bottom line: Snyder has to finish Sucker Punch and then the Superman reboot will be in the fastlane. Until then, everything you here, unless released by the studio, is mere fangasms and conjecture.

Another day, another Halo movie rumor. Yawn. Ever since Halo: Reach hit stores last month, the question has been raised over-and-over again: When will fans see a Halo movie hit the big screen? I like this question, but the answers that follow is the same hodgepodge of “someday” and “never” that have been burping out of Microsoft since the Peter Jackson-produced, Neill Blomkamp-directed version sent Master Chief’s trip to the cineplex to Development Hell. In fact, that’s a misstatement because there is no development anymore. The Halo movie is dead. Or is it? Remember, more than a year ago, when it was rumored that Steven Spielberg, easily one of the greatest directors in the history of the universe, was having a Cialis moment for Halo? Well, it seems the rumor is aflame again, this time chronicled in-depth by New York Magazine. According to the article, DreamWorks is renewing its efforts to obtain the rights to the Halo movie and are hinging the success of said effort on basing the movie off the novelizations (The Fall of Reach, First Strike, The Flood) and having Spielberg potentially direct. The article gives a nice review of the history behind the movie and offers up some juicy tidbits on who screwed who in the entire debacle. It’s worth the read, especially if you’re a Halo fan. My take: After being prison-raped by a throng of Halo rumors, let alone the collapse of the Jackson/Blomkamp version, I take this with a grain of salt. Sure, I’d love to see a movie get made and I’d run naked through the streets if Steven Spielberg was the man behind the director’s chair (just as long as that God-awful George Lucas was involved), but until I see an official press release from DreamWorks, this will be another rumor and nothing more. Until that day, the Halo movie is dead.

Here is the text of a letter-to-the-editor that appeared in today’s edition of our local newspaper, The Herald Journal, from one Lori Watts, resident of North Logan, Utah: Regarding “The Facebook Movie.” Parents beware! This show is very underated. It is very much an R-rated movie. It is not proper viewing for tweeners (or anyone else) to watch it. I am horrified at the thought of my teenagers going to this movie thinking it is something else and then being bombarded with nearly X-rated scenes. How this got a PG-13 is beyond belief. Sigh. Welcome to Utah. I’m not sure even where to begin with this woman’s ridiculously cuckoo statements, but I will start with where I agree with the writer: The Social Network isn’t a movie for young teens, and not because it should have been rated R or is “nearly x-rated.” Neither of those statements are remotely true. The Social Network easily fits into the guidelines the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and CARA (Classification and Ratings Administration) has established for PG-13 ratings, and The Social Network most certainly doesn’t have any sexual penetrations, oral sex or happy endings that would qualify it for an X rating, which, by the way, doesn’t even exist anymore. It’s obvious to me Lori Watts hasn’t seen any R rated movies and has never seen a porno. The Social Network is Sesame Street compared to both. If Lori Watts had done her homework before seeing “The Facebook Movie,” she would have realized it wasn’t going to be Farmville and Mafia Wars and cute little smiley faces. No, the movie was rated PG-13, which, according to the MPAA and CARA, means that “Parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.” That, alone, should make Watts and anyone else check out the film online, say at Kids-in-Mind.com, before heading to the theater. A closer look at the actual movie ratings rules for rating a movie PG-13 reveals even more: A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words,...

About the only thing similar actress Chloe Moretz and The Hunger Games’ fictional Katniss Everdeen have in common is both have kicked a lot of ass and both have seen a boatload of blood. I’m referring, tounge-in-cheek, to Moretz’s performances as Hit Girl in last April’s Kick-Ass, as well as her role as the blood-thirsty, yet tender-hearted, vampire in Let Me In, opening this Friday. Those are the only similarities and if the rumors of Moretz being considered for the role of Katniss are true, that is a bad, bad, bad idea on two main fronts. First and foremost, Chloe Moretz looks absolutely nothing like Katniss Everdeen. Moretz has pale skin and is a dishwater blonde, whereas Collins describes Katniss as having long, black hair (usually in a braid of sorts), grayish eyes and olive-colored skin, traits that specifically mark residents of The Seam, the poorest of poor miners in District 12. Short of a huge makeover, which I suppose is possible, Moretz simply doesn’t fit the part. And that leads me to my last point. Casting Chloe Moretz as Katniss Everdeen would be overkill and utter saturation for a movie that needs fresh faces and fresh blood. The same can be said of rumors of Kristen Stewart or Dakota Fanning suiting up as the aforementioned Everdeen. No, The Hunger Games needs an original cast of newbies because it needs to distance itself from the glut of teen-centric/young adult cinema, particularly The Twilight Saga, and rely more on story to push its success.

By ANDY MORGAN I’m sure you’ve heard the brouhaha James Grumpypants Cameron started last week by dropping a Cleveland Steamer on the recently released Piranha 3D, whereupon one of the movie’s producers, Mark Canton, responded in kind today with a longwinded email that was equally douchetastic as Cameron’s verbal napalm in his interview with Vanity Fair. And while I’m not impressed with either man’s behavior, I’m going to single out James Cameron because he was the instigator. All of those dives to the bottom of the ocean have caused his brain to forget the time old adage of “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” James, you need to shut your piehole. Why? Because 3D, whether in your blockbuster Avatar or in the trailer trash Piranha 3D, is absolutely, without question, 100 percent lame. It is all those things you describe in Vanity Fair – cheap, bad, bottom of the barrel and a last gasp. Honestly, James, I don’t know who is buttering your buns in Hollywood, but I challenge you to go sit in a multiplex in Anytown U.S.A where people aren’t vested in your financial success and ask them how much they enjoy 3D. They suffer through this absurd gimmick because their kids laugh and clap when stuff flies in their face. 3D is like letting your kids run wild at the McDonald’s Playland. It smells like pee and cheese, but the kids are having a good time and smiling and that’s enough to make mom and dad happy. Ironcially, kids enjoy 3D, but even they don’t really give a rat’s ass in the end. It’s about story and character and you achieved those with Avatar. Mark my words, James: 3D did not drive the success of Avatar. The story did. Period. Personally, even though I hate 3D and hope it dies a swift death in the coming years, I can pat the filmmakers of Piranha 3D on the back and give them kudos for actually using 3D in the right way. It’s nothing more than a cheap parlor trick and should be used as such. In fact, because Piranha 3D uses the gimmick of 3D to their advantage, it highlights how insipid and gaudy other films become by adding 3D after the film has been shot. But then, really, why am I surprised? The Almighty Dollar rules Tinsletown as does the unchecked ego, which is what seems to be your problem, James. You are a damn fine filmmaker, Mr. Cameron and are right about a lot of things, but not this. Piranha 3D did it right.

Apparently I was asleep in a cave when this trailer hit the web, but after watching it tonight, I have conflicting emotions. First and foremost, I want the movie to succeed. I absolutely loved every minute and detail of Zach Snyder’s 300 (2007), but I literally hated almost every minute of Watchmen (2009) and I’m not quite sure what to think of Snyder’s upcoming animated owl movie, Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. Sucker Punch hits theaters on March 25, 2011 and showcases a near all-female cast, including Vanessa Hudgens (Bandslam), Abbie Cornish (Bright Star), Jamie Chung (Grown Ups), Jena Malone (The Messengers) and Emily Browning (The Uninvited). Is it just me or does the trailer for Sucker Punch feel like a video game? It’s often said that video game to cinema translations don’t work because games are built on the foundation of spectacle and gameplay, not story. I tend to disagree with that notion, but I wonder if we’re entering an age where certain up and coming filmmakers, many of whom have played video games their entire lives, are now basing their visuals and foundations on some of the otherworldly imagery video games provide. In fact, the entire story of Sucker Punch, from what I can comprehend, seems like the basis for a video game. Here is how Zach Snyder describes the film: “Set in the 1950s, it tells the story of Baby Doll (Browning), who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution in Brattleboro, Vermont, and while there she starts to imagine an alternate reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is captured by an unknown adversary. She has 5 days to escape before being lobotomized. In order to cope with the situation, she enters the hyper-real world of her imagination, and the lines between reality and dream begin to blur. She is joined with friends who are inmates from the institution. Lessons learned in the said fantasy world could help the girls escape their real-world fate.” Check out the trailer and let me know your thoughts. This is on my radar, but after getting walloped in the balls by Kick-Ass and let down by Watchmen, I’ll go in extremely guarded.
