These posters have been online for a month or more, but because I’m a serious slacker I haven’t posted them here at AATM yet. I love the design of these posters, and while we’ve seen these characters (and more) in the full-length trailer for The Hunger Games, these one-sheets (going L to R) for Cinna, Cato, Effie, Katniss, Gale, Peeta, Rue and Haymitch, show a more detailed glimpse of the heroes and villains we’ll see when The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, 2012. Honestly, from what I’ve seen thus far, I like the way director Gary Ross and his crew have brought these memorable protangonists to life, with one exception: Haymitch. Perhaps I’ll change my mind when I see him on the big screen, but thus far – in the trailer and poster – I’m not a fan of the way Woody Harrelson is channeling the crusty old drunk, Haymitch Abernathy. Not. A. Fan. What do YOU think? Do you like the way these characters are portrayed, or did the filmmakers miss the mark?

It’s been awhile since we’ve had any posts about The Hunger Games movie. The cast and crew are busy filming the first installment of a quadrilogy (Lionsgate announced in May the three novels would be split into four films) somewhere in Burke County, North Carolina, and one would think, with a release date of March 23, 2012, that we’d see a teaser trailer within the next two or three months. Despite the slow-going on the news, a motion poster for the movie was revealed (see below) today and the official Hunger Games movie website went online, complete with a countdown widget for fans who are ready to pee their britches with excitement. As I mentioned before, The Hunger Games movie hits theaters on March 23, 2012 and stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Donald Sutherland as President Snow, Stanley Tucci as Caeser Flickerman and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna. The Hunger Games is directed by Gary Ross.

The big buzz on the web this week, after a few fan-made trailers hit YouTube this past month, is whether or not a teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises would be attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. I was at a press screening for the final Potter film last Monday, July 11, and Batman was no where to be found. However, I’m heading out to see Potter and Co. tomorrow for the sole purpose of catching a small glimpse of The Dark Knight Rises, easily the most anticipated movie of 2012. According to Screen Rant, the trailer is attached to The Deathly Hallows – Part 2, so if any AATM readers have seen the trailer, give us your thoughts. Did you wet yourself with excitement and anticipation? I know I sure as crap will. At any rate, check out the teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises (click on the thumbnail for a super-sized version). Me likey. It’s bold and on first glance has an Inception feel to it. All I know is Christopher Nolan can do no wrong in my book. He is the Pixar of directors right now and I cannot wait for The Dark Knight Rises, especially considering my unabashed love for The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Easily the best superhero movies ever made. Period.

Tron: Legacy is a movie I have zero interest in seeing this holiday season. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jeff Bridges and I enjoy a fanciful romp through video game land as much as the next guy, but I fell asleep during the 1982 version and I’m anticipating I’ll do the same in 2010, especially with the craptastic 3D shoveled down my throat like some rancid cherry-on-top surprise. However, with that said, this poster, released to the people of Hungary, may have swayed me. I’m a red-blooded American male, so a chick in a skintight suit, even one with a Frisbee on her back, is more than enough to get my beans boiling. This lovely lady, whoever she is, might just be enough to make me overlook Michael Sheen’s air-guitar silliness in the first Tron: Legacy trailer. The fact that his character is named Castor and runs a nightclub in TRON city makes me want to pummel my own willis and doodleberries with a paddle from my old Atari 2600. At any rate, enjoy the poster below.

There’s a new poster out for Piranha 3D and the sheer silliness of the artwork makes me giddy for August 20th, and, ironically, the 3D format. Batshit crazy fish with razor sharp teeth jumping off the screen and in my face is what 3D was made for and belays the gimmicky foundation of the technology. I’m excited for this movie and I think the movie should be a nice capstone to the so-so summer of 2010. Check out the full-sized poster after the jump.

Next to Clash of the Titans, there is no movie in the next two months I am more excited to see than Kick-Ass. In fact, I’d say there’s nothing in 2010 that has me more giddy than Perseus and Hit Girl. I just can’t fathom how Kick-Ass won’t be anything but a stellar success both critically and monetarily. Matthew Vaughn, the movie’s director, is the man behind the slick (but somewhat over-glorified) Layer Cake, and the under-appreciated Stardust. Below is a UK poster of the filthy-mouthed and deadly Hit Girl, played by up-and-coming Chloe Moretz, last seen as Tom’s wise (and filthy-mouthed) little sister, Rachel, in (500) Days of Summer.
On KVNU’s Movie Show Friday night, Andy and Dan delivered a brief preview of the biggest movies that will come to theaters (unless the movies, you know, make you think, in that case Westates won’t bring them to Logan) in 2010. One of the movies they mentioned, the remake of “Red Dawn,” reminded me to start doing a little Googling to find morsels of information about the updating of the 1984 Cold War thriller that made every teenage boy in America shout out in pride, “Wolverines!!!!!” Here’s what I found: and… As you can tell, unlike the 1984 original, which featured the Commie Russians invading the U.S., the update will have the Chinese as the antagonists. Here is a video that someone posted on YouTube from the outdoor set in Detroit. It shows a lot cool posters and imagery that, presumably, will be seen in the movie. Red Dawn 2010 The remake doesn’t have any super major name stars as far as I can gather, but that might be OK for a film like this. The new Red Dawn is scheduled for a November 24 release.
