Super 8 Trailer Smells More Like Spielberg than Abrams

While I’m not a fan of Abram’s television ventures – mostly because I’ve never seen one episode of Alias or Lost, I am a fan, thus far, of his big screen directing, particularly last year’s Star Trek re-boot. I’m not even going to mention how much I love Steven Spielberg. The man could direct a movie about the Wiggles and I’d be first in line. So when I heard these two creative behemoths joined storytelling forces to create this summer’s Super 8, I was thrilled. The subsequent teaserrific trailers (before last year’s Iron Man 2 and during this year’s Super Bowl) whetted my appetite even more.

Super 8’s full-length trailer debuted today on the web and, like the teasers, has that early Spielberg feel. It’s like E.T. meets Stand By Me meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Or maybe not. Frankly, I don’t know about you, but I still don’t know what the hell is going on. I know there are kids making a movie in 1979 with a super 8 camera. I know a train carrying something mysterious, possibly alien, derails and whatever is inside escapes. Super 8 stars Kyle Chandler (King Kong), Elle Fanning (Somewhere), Ron Eldard (House of Sand and Fog), Noah Emmerich (Fair Game), and Amanda Michalka (Secretariat).

Take a peek at the full length Super 8 trailer after the jump and share your thoughts, pretty please. Happy Friday!
