It’s no secret that Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones is one movie I’m looking forward to this December. Alice Sebold’s novel touched me and I consider it one of my favorite books. I had always hoped to see it brought to the big screen. I was absolutely thrilled when the multi-talented Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, King Kong) was announced as the director of The Lovely Bones. However, since then my enthusiasm, while present, has somewhat cooled. Why? Jackson’s teaser trailer left much to be desired, especially considering the images of heaven he’s put to celluloid versus the non-descript, everyone’s happy heaven Sebold put on the pages of her novel. I felt like I was watching a sequel to What Dreams May Come, and if that is how it turns out, I have one word for the movie – boo.
At any rate, I’m trying to keep an open mind and be positive (don’t even get me started on the casting of Mark Wahlberg as Suzie’s father), but my anticipation is starting to wade deeper into skepticism. In the meantime, as we wait for a longer trailer to surface, check out the first “real” poster for The Lovely Bones below (click on the link to biggie size), courtesty of Yahoo.com.
