The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Looks Dumb

It’s about time! Who hasn’t been awaiting the live action re-imagining of Disney’s classic Fantasia sequence: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice? With a bewigged and mumbling Nicholas Cage flashing the outfit he stole from Van Helsing? AND the funny kid from Knocked Up/Tropic Thunder? AND explosions and dragons galoooore?

Everyone, that’s who.

Maybe I’m just feeling cynical today, but this trailer makes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice look like a big ol’ batch of empty, bombastic dumb. All in spite of Jerry Bruckhiemer.

On a positive note, at least they kept the mops. Watch the trailer below, then breathlessly yawn your anticipation for July 16, 2010.

  • Everything about this movie, based on the trailer, looks turdtastic. And that music during the trailer? Barf.

  • I know, huh. From the opening shot to… I mean, I can’t even bother to elaborate. This just looks incredibly boring and hollow.

But I think I said that already.

  • Dude..why do they keep casting Cage into every bloody movie?
I like Cage enough but cmon!..Most the time he’s terrible!
    …TERRIBLE!

..And WTF did they cast that kid?

    /facepalm

  • Poor Cage is in a ton of debt, which may be the reason why he’s talking about every role that is thrown his way. Agree with both of you in that this trailer blows.

In Cage’s defense, I’ve read some very positive reviews regarding his role in Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: POCNO”, just a shame that his good perfromances are few and far in between.

  • SKG- No doubt that’s the reason. The guy’s making his 90s proliferation look reclusive.

And totally agree– Cage can be fantastic when he wants to be or the material demands it. Sadly, this doesn’t look like it’s either.
