Trailer Tuesday: Robin Hood

Ridley “I own too many films in Dan’s Lifetime Top 10” Scott’s been around the block a few times when it comes to directing swords, dirt, slow-mo “Aaaaaargh”s and men being cloven in the forest thanks to 1492: Conquest of Paradise, Gladiator and the unjustly maligned Kingdom of Heaven. He’s now chalked up another– as we posted way back in April, Ridley Scott’s been hard at work on Robin Hood. So have Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and William Hurt. Not so sure about the Merry Men, however.

Mincing man-pals aside, the idea of a new take on Robin Hood feels genuinely… unexciting. Where do you go with this one? We know where Scott’s going to take it– a little more gritty, a little more blue filtered and all kinds of beautifully shot. Scott’s got an automatic pass as far as I’m concerned, but I have a feeling we’ve seen this style and story before. So yeah. Been there done that-ism won’t stop me from looking forward to it, but can everyone else say the same?

I guess we’ll leave that prognosticating to 2010. In the mean time, all Scott’s hard work has lead to this one moment: The debut of the Robin Hood trailer here at AATM.

Enjoy:

  • I hope this is rated R, because some stories don’t need the watered down effects of PG-13. As for the trailer, it had its moments, but I’m not pooping my pants. I mean, it’s Ridley Scott for heaven’s sake, so I’ll see it, but the trailer didn’t grab me like I thought it might.

  • There are few higher than Scott n Crowe in my book but this trailer looks..meh..

Would someone inform me again why we need another robin hood already? I still have nightmares of Costner’s naked ass from the last one, am i going to be forced to watch Crowes ass too?

Why is this shit being rehashed over and over?..And by the very best in film? Ridley…really? How could you top Gladiator m’brotha?..And all this looks like from the trailer is a weak Gladiator.

    Dont get it..

  • Gladiator 2? Faaaaaaantastic. This one's a can't miss.

  • This version of Robin Hood is missing one very important thing….Richard Armitage.
