The Time Traveler’s Wife Looks Super Meh

Let me be clear: “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger is one of my most favorite books. Reading it was emotional journey and the novel was a perfect blend of adventure and love, sprinkled with literary honesty and truthfulness. It wasn’t a bubble-gum, Nicholas Sparks-drugstore-paperback-romance and that’s what made it extraordinary. But wow, this trailer makes “The Time Traveler’s Wife” look like the sequel to “A Walk to Remember.” I realize it’s just a preview and this could simply

Scorsese’s Shutter Island = A New Pair of Underpants

Oh my oh my oh my. Based on the trailer for “Shutter Island,” it would seem Martin Scorsese has put together another fantastic film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The trailer makes me think the movie is a mixed bag of drama, with a slight lean towards suspense and terror. It’s based on a 2003 Dennis Lehane novel (“Gone Baby Gone”) about two U.S. marshals investigating the disappearance of a patient at a mental institution on a remote island. The film opens

This Year’s Indie Darling? Maybe.

I’ve heard rumblings and rumors of the Sam Mendes-directed (“American Beauty,” “Road to Perdition” and “Revolutionary Road”) “Away We Go” making some critics go bonkers with joy and others thumb their noses at how hard the movie tries to be quirky and comically edgy. I have no opinion, whereas I haven’t seen the movie yet (I hope to catch a screening next week), but judging from the trailer, I’d say it looks right up my alley. Plus, the movie heralds

Bruce Willis + Hair = Pure Crap

I don’t give a rat’s patootie if “Surrogates” is based on a graphic novel (all the rage nowadays), because any movie that has Bruce Willis with “hair” should be flushed down the marketing toilet pronto. This movie is and will be pure crap. Mark my words. I’m sorry, but I just can’t get over that cringe-inducing hairpiece on John McClaine. And who thought golden blonde would be a great choice? Man oh man oh man. Terrible.

Not Content to be a Final Destination, Final Destination Becomes THE Final Destination

So the Final Destination series is really great at tension. In fact, they’re tension factories. Still, they’re kinda dumb. But dumb in the sense that horror aficionados can love it, since the whole premise is taking their arch enemies– IE nondescript young people with modeling contracts– and building a better blunt/sharp object mousetrap to punish them with. And, with no villain but death, it’s a gift that keeps on giving. In 3D, even. Juicy. The trailer for the fourth installment

The Movie Destined to Usher In Millenial Peace Revealed

And by revealed I mean James Cameron’s Avatar has released some concept art that’s not just lame set/bluescreen shots or images destined to be yanked by Fox studios. This is real, approved stuff– replete with Camerony future-military/fantastic fingerprints. Beholden (and click to beholden bigger): I’m a sucker for anything military/future military, so seeing stuff like this just fills my nerdy heart with unabated gid. I’m still not buying into the incredibly verbose hype that’s echoing off any mention of Avatar,

A Perfect Getaway Trailer Ruins Hawaii Before God Does

It’s no secret I love Hawaii. If it was a woman, I’d marry it. A man, even. But let’s not go too far down that road, because the following trailer may have ruined all that for me. Ok, no. Every summer you’ve got a late-season junk thriller/actioner that pops up and makes a run for a dark horse weekend. Into the Blue was one such film. Red Eye was another. Last year we saw Death Race and Mirrors. Two of
