I reviewed ETERNITY on yesterday’s KVNU For the People Movie Show, and it’s a keeper. I gave the movie a B+. This is a romantic dramedy that wins on craft—smart writing, clean execution, and performances that serve the story instead of showboating.

Plot (spoiler-light): After longtime spouses Larry and Joan die days apart, they arrive—young again—at a whimsical way-station called the Junction, where the newly dead sample and then choose one “eternity.” Joan is offered trial runs through different forevers, forcing an impossible decision: spend eternity with Larry, the partner of her lifetime, or with Luke, her first love who died decades earlier and has been waiting. As Joan revisits small moments and near-misses, she figures out which love truly shaped her and what “forever” should mean.

Main Cast:

• Elizabeth Olsen — Joan (torn between the love she lived and the love she lost)

• Miles Teller — Larry (steadfast, practical, and—standout alert—against type)

• Callum Turner — Luke (the first husband, patient and magnetic)

• Da’Vine Joy Randolph, John Early, Olga Merediz — off-beat guides at the Junction

Why it works (for me):

• Writing & execution: The humor is character-born, not quip-machine, and the structure pays off emotional beats instead of undercutting them. It’s built on honest emotion, fears and quagmires.

• Tone: Light on its feet but honest about the mess—commitment, timing, and the small selfishnesses we justify.

• Performances: No showboating. The ensemble clicks, and Miles Teller walks away with the film by playing decidedly against his usual cocky persona.

Where it lands: Full-price ticket, easy recommendation. It doesn’t creep into awards-bait territory—and that’s fine. Not every great night at the movies needs a campaign; ETERNITY simply does its job with clarity, heart, and a few laugh-out-loud runs that earn the feels.
