Liam Neeson trades his scowl for slapstick in THE NAKED GUN, a reboot that shouldn’t work but somehow does. With a face built for drama and a voice made for threatening kidnappers, Neeson plays it all straight, which, of course, makes it even funnier. Add Pamela Anderson as the love interest, a barrage of sight gags, wordplay, and deadpan delivery, and you’ve got a comedy that honors the late Leslie Nielsen while creating its own ridiculous rhythm.
I gave THE NAKED GUN an A- for hitting the nostalgic sweet spot and delivering more hits than misses. It’s not perfect, but when it’s funny, it’s really funny.
