American Film Institue Names Best of 2009

The American Film Institute has rolled out its AFI Awards, an annual top ten list of the year’s best films. AFI’s 2009 list includes Coraline, The Hangover, The Hurt Locker, The Messenger, Precious, A Serious Man, A Single Man, Sugar, Up and Up in The Air. I can agree with all of those, however I haven’t seen The Messenger, A Single Man, Sugar or Up in The Air. I was hoping to see the latter, but apparently in the world

Release the Kraken! New Clash Trailer Kicks Ass!

Okay, it’s 100 percent official – I can’t wait for March 10, 2010. This new Clash of the Titans trailer is quite similar to the teaser released a few months ago, but there is enough new bits and pieces that I’ve officially taken the fast train to Nerdtown. I loved the 1981 version starring Harry Hamlin (LA Law), but it was ripe for a remake. From what I can tell – and again, I’m just going off the trailer –

There Will Be Another Star Wars Trilogy

I realize we’ve seen The Clone Wars animated movie and The Clone Wars animated television series since the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in 2005, but anyone who thinks ROTS was the last live-action Star Wars movie is smoking crack. I’ve been saying this since 2005 and even Roger Ebert agreed with me back then, saying in his review of Sith – Although Lucas has absolutely said he is finished with the series, it is

Does Clint Eastwood Ever Stop?

Not only is Clint Eastwood a superb director, but he is a hard worker. Seriously, the guy has been going non-stop with award-winning films since 2003 and Mystic River, which, I should add, he followed-up with Million Dollar Baby, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, Changeling, Gran Torino, Invictus and, due in 2010, Hereafter. With the exception of Hereafter, I dare you to argue that any one of those movies isn’t nothing short of stellar. You can’t. And

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Looks Dumb

It’s about time! Who hasn’t been awaiting the live action re-imagining of Disney’s classic Fantasia sequence: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice? With a bewigged and mumbling Nicholas Cage flashing the outfit he stole from Van Helsing? AND the funny kid from Knocked Up/Tropic Thunder? AND explosions and dragons galoooore? Everyone, that’s who. Maybe I’m just feeling cynical today, but this trailer makes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice look like a big ol’ batch of empty, bombastic dumb. All in spite of Jerry Bruckhiemer. On

It’s The Clash–Duh-Duh– of the Titaaaaaans!

You like your movie posters raw and howling? You bet your ass you do. That’s why Yahoo! Movies has delivered a hat trick of eye poppin’, loin-punchin’, action extravaganzin’ Clash of the Titans one-sheets to give your eyeballs a beefy Sam Worthington squeeze. Dynamic is the key word here, Friends. There’s nary a floating head to be found and all posters are money shot-a-riffic: Perseus reveling in punishing Medusa’s choice in hair stylist, Perseus brandishing the sword of swordiness atop

Cougars and Teens Rejoice! Twilight Coming to IMAX!

Oh, Nelly! Twihards are going to poop their pants over this news! Not only will fans of Edward Furrybrows, Jacob Wolfsack and Bella Sadpants be able to swoon and lust over their Stephanie Meyer-created crazy characters, but – BUT – they’ll be able to get their fix while watching The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on the very, very, very big screen of IMAX. Holy cuss! The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is directed by David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) and

Tron Legacy Poster is Actually Not Lame

You know, for a movie I still think is going to suck the sweat off a dead man’s gut sack, this Tron Legacy poster is pretty sweet. The movie opens on December 10, 2010 and is directed by Joseph Kosinski. That’s not a household name to anyone but Joseph’s mother, but Halo fans might get a nerdgasm to learn he was the director of the “Starry Night” commercial that aired back in December 2006. This is Kosinski’s first feature film.
