Trailer Tues…Wednesday: The Lovely Bones

Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones is one of the most powerful and emotional novels I have read in my entire life. It moved me in such a way that a film version didn’t seem possible or plausible. That’s the beauty of books and reading, the “movie” is painted in our minds by virtue of our imagination, not Hollywood’s. Nevertheless, my fears were stymied when Peter Jackson (The Lord of The Rings) was tagged to direct Sebold’s masterpiece. My only concern

Trailer Tuesday: The Fantastic Mr. Fox

I was singing the praises of Coraline last night via my Facebook status when I came across the trailer for the new Wes Anderson (The Darjeeling Limited) stop-motion-animation movie, The Fantastic Mr. Fox. It wasn’t by coincidence I happened upon another seemingly stop-motion gem, rather I was reading up on Coraline director Henry Selick, who, it was noted in his Wikipedia biography, worked on The Fantastic Mr. Fox with Anderson, as well as The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. As

New Avatar Poster Makes Me Think of Cat People

A new poster hit the web today for James Cameron’s highly anticipated new movie, Avatar. This poster features Zoe Saldana’s (Star Trek) character, Neytiri. This is the alien babe that Sam Worthington’s (Terminator Salvation) Jake Sully falls in love with while residing as a human-Na’vi hybrid, aka an avatar, on the world of Pandora. I don’t know about you, but while Zoe Saldana is hot in the recent reboot of Star Trek, seeing her as a blue-skinned, 10-foot tall alien

Funny People is a Huge Disappointment

As a 35 year-old man, my anticipation for the new comedy Funny People was tantamount to the exuberance I felt during my youth for The Empire Strikes Back or Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom – you know, back when I was sporting Underroos and playing with G.I. Joe and He-Man toys. I suppose my excitement for an “adult” movie is part of growing up (although I still get giddy for a juicy, brainless summer popcorn release) , but

Ridley Scott Directing Alien Prequel

Looks like Ridley Scott, the director of the soon-to-come (May 2010) Robin Hood, and the mastermind behind such hits as Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Thelma & Louise and Kingdom of Heaven, is set to return the Alien franchise that he started in 1979 and which turned increasingly craptastic after James Cameron’s Aliens sequel in 1986. This go around will be a prequel and will be written by, from all I can see, a hardly known screenwriter named Jon Spaihts. While

New Poster for The Informant is Old School Awesome

I posted the trailer for the new Steven Soderbergh/Matt Damon movie, The Informant, exactly a month ago, and today we’re privvy to a new, retro poster for the film. To recap, The Informat is a dark comedy, based on the non-fiction book of the same name (by New York Times investigative reporter Kurt Eichenwald). The story revolves around Mark Whitacre, an executive at Archer Daniels Midland, who exposes the company’s price-fixing scheme and who also exposes his own infractions and

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra – Summer Surprise, or Summer Suck?

We’ve chronicled the perceived suck and troubles with “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” here at AATM.com, and Dan even mentioned awhile back that Snake Eyes and Co. were getting some favorable reviews from audiences who had screened the Stephen Sommers’ cinematic Hasbro nerdgasm. I was and am leanging toward this movie reeking of Sommers’ stinky CGI and near-vapid plot and character, but from what I hear from the press folks I work with out of Denver, they won’t be

The Wolfman Release Date Change…Again

In 2006, Universal Pictures announced they were remaking the 1941 horror classic “The Wolf Man” (that starred Lon Cheney, Jr – no relation to Dick, and Béla Lugosi) and had the hariest man in Mexico, Benicio del Toro, cast as the lead lycan, Lawrence Talbot. “The Wolfman” was given a release date of November 2008 and subsequently things went down the pooper. Original director, Mark Romenak, left the movie because of “creative” differences and Joe Johnston (“Jumanji,” “Jurassic Park III”)
