Some sequels show up too late and feel like a cynical cash grab. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is not that. I’m glad they waited 20 years. Landing in 2026, this plays less like a desperate attempt to recapture old magic and more like a genuine love letter to the original – a sharp, glossy “where are they now?” story set against the wildly different media landscape of 2026.
That shift in the world around these characters is what gives the movie its reason to exist. The original film came out when glossy magazines still had real cultural power. This sequel steps into a very different era, one shaped by digital churn, fractured attention spans, image management, and the constant pressure to remain relevant in a world that burns through people and platforms in five minutes. That gives THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 a smart foundation, and thankfully the script knows how to use it.
The cast is exactly why you’d want to come back. Meryl Streep is timeless. She does not have to force a thing. She just walks in and the movie instantly has gravity. Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt are both excellent, per usual, and Stanley Tucci is delightful in the way only Stanley Tucci can be. Nobody feels like they’re sleepwalking through a reunion special. They all understand the assignment.
This isn’t quite an A for me, but it’s a very solid B or B+. It may not reach the heights – which is always hard for sequels – of the original, but it absolutely earns its place. Stylish, funny, and surprisingly thoughtful, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 reminds you why these characters worked in the first place, and why, in the right hands, revisiting them can still be worth it.
