Trailer Tuesday: Pirates of The Caribbean 4

Listen, I thought Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was an overstuffed mess of a film and I might be one of a select few who actually enjoys the second movie, Dead Man’s Chest, more than it’s predecessor, The Curse of the Black Pearl. Frankly, who would have thought a theme park ride, albeit one of my favorites, could spawn three fairly decent movies? Not me. As a side note, I also think Johnny Depp, like his pal Tim Burton, is overrated and not much to clap for unless he’s in some quirky, ridiculous role. Why do I bring this all up? Because, oddly, I am chomping at the bit for Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Maybe it’s the Hans Zimmer swashbuckling score in the trailer, or maybe the winter weather in Utah has me aching for the blue skies, sunshine and spicy temperatues of summer. Whatever the reason, based on this first trailer, I think this could be a juicy surprise.

Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom are long gone in On Stranger Tides and aside from Jack Sparrow (Depp), Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush), Gibbs (Kevin McNally), Captain Teague (Keith Richards) and a few other minor familiar faces, the fourth movie, which has our beloved Captain Jack looking for the Fountain of Youth, welcomes new faces in Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and Angelica (Penelope Cruz). The premise and the cast seem ripe for success, but my only worry is the filmmakers will inject to much Captain Jack and theatergoers will suffer a severe case of Sparrow-lag. The bumbling pirate will go down in  in cinema history as an all-time great character, but sometimes too much of a good thing turns boring and irritating pretty quick. Just ask George Lucas.

Check out the trailer after the jump and give me your thoughts? Summer must see or Summer must miss?
