John Campea of The Movie Blog likes to point out quite often that video game movies suck. Sadly, I’d have to agree. I suppose you could call me a “gamer,” but I really only follow a few franchises – “Halo,” “Gears of War,” and “Call of Duty” – and I’m rarely impressed or surprised by other games. I think “BioShock” and “Dead Space” are the only other games of late that have been both awesome in gameplay and easily destined …

This plain, boring, zero-inspiration, third-grade Photoshop poster for the “Clash of the Titans” remake isn’t going to stop me from geeking out and circling March 26, 2010 on my calendar. No sir! In fact, I’m actually wondering if the remake can even come close to trumping the two hours of awesome that is the 1981 version. That movie satisfied all my third-grade appetites – nudity, crazy creatures, hairless dudes in skirts fighting with swords, winged horseys and enough herky jerky …
Remember that crazy bearded fellow named James Cameron who made everyone cringe when, after winning the best director Oscar for “Titanic,” exclaimed “I’m King of the World!” ? Talk about taking your time after an Oscar victory to choose your next project carefully, but the wait is finally over. August 21, 2009 is “Avatar” Day! Ava-wha? Yeah, I know. I feel the same way. Frankly, unless you have your finger on the movie pulse of the web, you probably don’t …
We were privy to some first-look photos last month and now the teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” has hit the web. I don’t have much to say, except it looks a lot like, well, Tim Burton. That’s what I thought (and what Dan wrote) when we first saw the Entertainment Weekly pics. But guess what? That’s a good thing. My only question is this: Why a March release date? Call me skeptical, but wouldn’t this be better …
This is the International Trailer for Guy Ritchie’s new movie, “Sherlock Holmes,” due in theaters on Christmas Day. As you probably know, it stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and the lovely Rachel McAdams. As you watch the trailer you’ll probably recognize a few other Ritchie regulars, including Mark Strong (“RocknRolla,” “Body of Lies,” “Stardust”). I think the trailer is enough mix of substance and tease to make this a surefire hit come December 25th. I can also say, being …
I’m always a little hesitant to go bonkers over a trailer because, like a jilted lover, I just don’t want to get burned again after emotionally investing myself in a two-minute clip. This is my state of mind with “Brothers,” the new film from Jim Sheridan (“In America”), starring Tobey Maguire (“Spider-Man”), Natalie Portman (“The Other Boleyn Girl”) and Jake Gyllenhaal (“Rendition”). My heart strings were tugged a little bit while watching this preview, but again – how much of …
I’ve seen posters and teasers for the Peter Jackson-produced and Neill Blomkamp-directed “District 9,” but until this new, longer trailer was released I had no burning desire, except for Blomkamp and Jackson’s involvement in the Halo motion picture project, to see this sci-fi flick based on Blonkamp’s short film “Alive in Joburg.” This new two minute preview paints a richer, deeper and more revealing look at what seems to be a visually stunning, tense, action-packed, intelligent film. I say this …
“Funny People,” the third film from director Judd Apatow (“The 40 Year-Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up”), is one movie I’ve been anticipating since the first trailer hit the web several months back. The movie releases on July 31 and this evening I came across the just-released redband trailer – it sat there staring at me in all its R-rated goodness, like the Playboy magazine you find when you’re a kid and know, without a doubt, you should not be looking …
